NOTE: If you are a potential client wanting to partner/outsource multiple jobs, IGNORE THESE RATES. Yes, if you can supply me a steady stream of ongoing work, we will work out a deal on pricing.

My rates completely depend on what type of media I'm working with. Editing an existing site is pretty cheap, while doing complex animation with Flash or full blown Illustration work is obviously much more expensive. The more complex the project, the more expensive the bill will be. However, I'm QUICK. I know my applications like the back of my hand (I doubt most design professors know Photoshop half as well as I do), so while there may be some sticker shock (no pun intended) with my hourly rates, please keep in mind I usually get things right the first try. As an example, the site you are looking at right now took around 34 hours from start to finish. 10 hours was Flash, 10 hours were spent in Photoshop/Illustrator (web design) and around 10 were creating all the content (HTML editing). There was also around 4 hours spent making the 3D models/textures used inside the Flash animation (3D Modeling/Animation). That's $2400 grand total. Obviously you may or may not want to "splurge" on features such as animation, but that's totally up to you reguarding how big of a visual impact you want to make.

If your project has a "hard-set budget" that is not flexable, then I can quote a job with a "not-to-exceed" number related to final cost. In other words, yes....I can give you a bottom-line quote.

Projects start being billed WITH concept sketches. I do not charge for initial meeting/phone conversation discussing the project. Billing begins when I pick up my pencil and start creating. Meeting me in person is hardly necessary if you are not in the Nashville area. The majority of my work has been done via phone conversations and email. Large files can be transfered via FTP or YouSendIt.com.

If you have ANY questions reguarding my prices, please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to explain my process.

Standard HTML editing: $30 per hour.
This includes adding content, revising existing content, cleaning up messy code, and adding pre-made images. Easy stuff...but done right. Most (if not all) of this type of labor involves me using Dreamweaver and NO graphics being created. Please note: I do NOT write your website's content. That's your job. I WILL run your text through a spell-checker, but grammatical errors are not my responsibility to fix.

Web Design: $60 per hour.
This includes layout and design for the "framework" of your website. Most of this type of design work is created inside Photoshop and Illustrator. Once the site design is approved, I will also cut up the images into tables/DIVs and create web-pages with dummy text ready for content. I generate extremely clean code and if these pages/templates need to be passed to a programmer, they can easily work with them. Yes, you can find cheaper web designers, but I've been doing this TEN YEARS. It will look professional and it will be correct. You get what you pay for...especially with marketing.

Logo Design: $75 per hour.
This includes concept sketches and actual production of the logo. The final approved design will be created inside of Illustrator and will be a "vector" format (usually an EPS file) that is resolution independent. That simply means you can scale it as large or small as you want and there will be no image distortion or nasty pixelization. I will also supply large PNGs you can use to embed inside MS Word or other office-applications.

Print Design: $75 per hour.
Anything sent to a printer falls under this catagory. This includes business cards, brochures, mailers, CD-packaging, trade-show booth designs, posters, etc. I do have preferred printers I like to deal with (48hourprint.com for example), but I can use another printer if need be. However....there are BAD print services out there. If you get your brochures back and something is wrong (that was not in the approved proof), that is NOT my responsibility. Know your printer. Use a reliable service that stands by their work. If a print job goes wrong, they should work with you to correct the issue. Once you have appoved the final comp (from the printer), it is out of my hands.

Flash Design: $90 per hour.
Flash can be a beast. It's tricky to work with and takes a considerable amount of time compared to regular old static image creation. Animation is it's own art. If you want fancy animation on your site, I can certainly do it but it is more expensive. I will storyboard out how the animation will work before starting any Flash work for client approval. You simply CANNOT make up Flash as you go. You need a solid concept before starting any such project.

Illustration: $120 per hour.

There's probably cheaper out there, but I DO know how to draw/paint. If you want some VERY unique one-of-a-kind design work, I can make that happen. Once again, I will do concept sketches before the actual illustration begins. I generally sketch designs traditionally, then add color using "digital painting" techniques inside Photoshop or Painter. If you want an actual traditional painting or pencil piece, please specify that as well. For local clients I do use specific framing services in the Nashville/Franklin TN area. If artwork is being shipped, I cannot be responsible for damaged pieces. Please use insurance for anything being shipped.

3D Modeling & Animation: $150 per hour.
I use 3DS MAX and Zbrush to create 3D models. Animation is done inside of 3DS MAX. I can export animations into practically any video format you need (and at any resolution required....including HD). If you need a logo converted to a 3D object for a video demonstration, this would be a perfect example of this type of work. Creating high resolution models for illustration is also very do-able. Again, concept sketches will be created for client approval before production begins. Texture and lighting is included for this type of work. I can supply a variety of exported geometry for other designers to work with including MAX, 3DS, OBJ and ZTL (Z-brush). I also can retopolize (remesh) existing models very quickly to make them more animation friendly (from 3D scans for example).

PLEASE NOTE: Once my job is complete, you will be billed. I will send you a PDF outlining all the charges agreed upon. You have THIRTY DAYS to make payment. I will take a check but paypal is preferred.
Once final payment is received (or the check has cleared), you will be mailed (or handed if local) a DVD with all the development files included. Examples include PSDs (Photoshop), AI (Illustrator), FLA (Flash), MAX (3DS MAX) and so on. You can use these files however you wish with another designer if you choose. You paid for the work, so you get the whole thing. However, I do NOT supply fonts or typefaces. I can include a text file naming the fonts I use, but I cannot legally distribute typefaces to clients. That is software piracy.

If your project is a website, my job is complete once all the pages are created and online. I ask for ALL CONTENT UPFRONT before starting the project. I will not write your content for you. Many clients spend weeks getting content ready after the website is live and online. Once the website is finished, I will ask you for content again. After a week I will place "Under Construction" on missing pages and bill the customer. I know this sounds harsh, but I have worked on MANY sites that never finished supplying me with content. That is simply not a valid reason to delay my payment for services rendered.

What I DON'T DO:

I am NOT a programmer. That is a different profession with it's own set of skills that takes years to perfect. Some web developers claim to be designers and programmers. They generally suck. There is FAR too much to explore and learn on either side of that fence without trying to do both. If your web project requires a programmer (setting up forums or a shopping cart for example) I work with several ASP, .NET and PHP programmers. We can all get on the phone together if need be. That is not a problem. If you need basic Flash animation, I can do that. However, if you require ADVANCED Flash work for a full blown application (that talks to a databse for example), then we will need an Actionscript programmer. I know an extremely talented one with exceptional skill. Again, we can all get on the phone if necessary to begin your project.

I am not a video dude. I don't film or edit video. I can, however, take video you have created for your website or DVD and create streaming flash from it. That's not a problem. If you need video composition or chroma-key (green screen) work, I highly recommend Point 3 Media in the Nashville area. They can certainly hook you up. I DON'T recommend using them for Web Design. Let me take care of that. ;)

I don't do professional Photography. That is a different art. I do own a very nice SLR camera and can take photos of your products (or even for a band site if necessary) but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND hiring a Professional Photographer. While I can make some pretty crappy photos look good in Photoshop, I would prefer to have good images to use from the beginning.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
